Lii. Separation of Serum Albumin into Two Fractions Ii. Observations on the Nature of the Glycoprotein Fraction by Leslie Frank

چکیده
EXPERIMENTS recently reported led to the conclusion that serum albumin, even when obtained in the crystalline condition, contains considerable amounts of another protein which is removable only with difficulty [Hewitt, 1936]. It would thus appear that material regarded as being reasonably pure and used as the starting point of many investigations was a mixture of different proteins. A clear-cut separation of the albumin fraction of horse serum into two distinct fractions of widely different chemical and physical properties was described in the former paper. One of the fractions was crystalline serum albumin in a purer state than that usually attained and was virtually free from polysaccharide. Since the total albumin fraction of serum contains considerable amounts of polysaccharide it is not surprising that the second fraction isolated contained a glycoprotein, the identity of which was not established. In view of the possible importance of these observations the experiments now described were carried out in order to obtain further evidence in support of the conclusions reached and to collect more information about the glycoprotein present in the second fraction of serum albumin.

An Overview of Sex Selection at Conception in Mammals
Although the mechanisms under which sex ratio is controlled in nature remain unknown, researchers have attempted to treat sperm in an effort to predetermine the sex of the offspring. The methods of sperm separation that have been repeatedly reported to isolate fractions rich in X- or Y-chromosome bearing sperm are serum albumin gradient swim-up and flow cytometry. However, the ability of the se...
متن کاملComparison of Two Kinds of Functionally Graded Cylindrical Shells with Various Volume Fraction Laws for Vibration Analysis
In this paper, a study on the vibration of thin cylindrical shells made of a functionally gradient material (FGM) composed of stainless steel and nickel is presented. The effects of the FGM configuration are taken into account by studying the frequencies of two FG cylindrical shells. Type I FG cylindrical shell has nickel on its inner surface and stainless steel on its outer surface and Type II...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Potential Protein Biomarkers Extracted with 10% TCA from Blood Serum of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma Patients
Blood serum has been extensively explored as a source of the bio-markers [1, 2]. For concentration of minor protein(s) and depletion of abundant blood serum proteins a 2,2,2-trichloroacetic acid (TCA) precipitation procedure is frequently applied [3]. However, a significant amount of proteins may be present in the TCA extracts, and these proteins are often not studied.Recently, we have sh...
متن کاملHuman plasma derived drugs separation by fractionation of plasma with polyethylene glycol
Background: There are varieties of purification techniques for separation of human plasma proteins such as salting out, ion exchange chromatography, and ethanol fractionation. There are limitations for each method, for example in salting out method, the salt has to be removed in an additional step. Ion exchange chromatography is difficult for scaling up, and plasma fractionation is a time consu...
متن کاملElectrophoretic Analysis of Plasma and Urinary Proteins.
Accurate analysis of the protein fractions of human plasma has in the past been very difficult and time-consuming. Fractional precipitation by neutral salt, as in Howe's method (1), has proved useful because of its simplicity and because the most important pathologic variations in plasma proteins involve a gross diminution in the albumin fraction. Such methods have definite limitations: Butler'...
